The Past Within is one of these games. It separates two players across two timelines, one in the future, one in the past, then presents them with a series of puzzles they cannot solve without clues from the other person's present. Only when solved, will the shared story move on.

If you and a friend or partner are into this cosy niche corner of gaming and are happy to spend an afternoon burning your brains together, The Past Within is a must play. Mostly because it's good, but also sort of because there aren't many other options that you likely haven't already exhausted.

The co-op only mechanics of The Past Within - the latest in the mystery puzzle series Rusty Lake - are interesting, but the puzzling is too easy.
